3 Wheeled Buggies
A 3-wheel buggy can be used for off-road walking and for tackling terrain such as uneven paths or tracks in woodlands. They are also simpler to move up and down kerbs as opposed to 4-wheel models.
Kath who is the editor of MadeForMums' reviews, tested one of these three-wheelers on tarmac and on a variety of terrains. Read her review here.
Stability
With four wheels and a central point of gravity that is balanced by the weight of your child's seat, buggies with four wheels are generally considered to be more stable than 3-wheelers. But that doesn't mean that the three-wheel buggie isn't worth a look, since the majority of them are built to cope with everything from rough terrain to bustling high streets.
If you want a buggie that is easy to maneuver and won't fall over on muddy roads, opt for a model with large rear wheels and an adjustable front wheel that locks. These buggies are typically equipped with pneumatic tyres too, which are ideal for handling non-paved surfaces and can even be used on sandy beaches or tracks in woodland.
These are also the best buggies for running with, since they offer great stability on rough terrain and can help you keep pace with your jogging partner. They can also be used to go up and down steep kerbs, and many have spring suspension that is built-in, so your baby can enjoy a smooth ride.
The one thing that makes a 3-wheeled pushchair tricky to manoeuvre is the wide frame, which can make it harder to fit through narrow and tight doorways than a 4-wheeler. Some manufacturers have addressed this issue by using a clever design which flips the wheels up when they are not in use. This reduces their size and makes it easier to maneuver through doors.
You'll also have to consider whether your buggy is suitable for your child from birth, or if you're thinking of using it with an infant car seat or carry cot. If so, ensure that it is in an upright position and if the design is compatible with other seats and buggy boards (if you're planning to put the toddler to the buggy). A lot of 3-wheelers fold flat, and later be put up in a upright position. This is great for those with a small boot space or limited storage at home. Some 3-wheelers require you remove the front wheel to fold them into smaller sizes.
Manoeuvrability
Three-wheeled buggies are more maneuverable than four-wheeled strollers. They typically have a swivelling wheel on the front which allows you to change direction quickly and steer with only one hand. Certain models come with wheels that lock to give you stability on more rough terrain. Some models can be used with an additional seat or buggy board, in case you want to expand your family.
If you're planning to take your three-wheeled bike off the paved tracks, it's worth opting for a vehicle that has tyres with air in them (also known as pneumatic tyres) that can withstand the toughest terrain. These tyres may require regular pumping but will be much more durable than tyres made of solid rubber and more likely to be puncture-proof. Choose a model that has a the ability to lock the swivelling wheel on the front to help you negotiate tricky surfaces.
Having a single front wheel could indicate that three-wheelers can be heavier than buggies with four wheels when folded. Check to see if the model you're considering fits in the boot of your vehicle and can be stood up, in the event that it is needed. Some models fold using one hand and can be rearranged when folded. This can help save space in a small car boot.
A quality three-wheel pushchair will handle most terrains from busy streets to forest tracks. It's important to consider how you will use it every day. If you're planning to run the school run, it ought to be able to handle steep kerbs and slopes. If you'll be running with it, make sure it has a lockable swivelling'stretch' front wheel to ensure that the ride is safe.
MFM reviewer Kath found her three-wheeled buggy able to cope really well on both the countryside and urban walks. Kath said it was able to negotiate rocky paths, cobbles, and bumpy pavements with ease and felt pleasant when running. It's also a great choice for day trips as it offers plenty of storage space. It comes with an enormous, spacious, zip-top covered basket and an extendable 50+ UV hood. It can also be modified to fit babies as young as a lie-flat seat or a carry cot, as well as being compatible with the majority of popular second seats and buggy boards.
three wheel pushchairs between a fabric sling and a modular seat is that the fabric sling fits snugly inside the buggy frame as opposed to being positioned on top as a modular seat would. This allows for a more ergonomically correct position of the baby, which results in a lower center of gravity, which is just the right height. This translates into an easier push, a lighter curb pop (you do not require much effort or weight to pop the buggy over the curb's edge) and a better balance and stability.
These buggy seats also feature sling fabrics that are easy to clean and durable. Developed specifically with the use of sling chairs in mind, these fabrics are incredibly UV resistant and air-tight. These fabrics are also very easy to maintain with mild soap and warm water.
If you're a jogger, or enjoy a bit of off-roading, an all-terrain 3 wheeler could be more suitable than a 4-wheeler. These models have a larger base, are more stable and use air-filled tyres to provide smooth, easy mobility over rough terrain.
Maxi-Cosi is a company known for its car seats and has now added a brand new 3-wheeler, the Stella to its product line. This luxurious 3 wheeler, designed for the most discerning buggy owner is as gorgeous to see as it is to operate. Modular Seat
Modular seating can be set up in a variety of ways to meet different seating needs. Modular seating can be easily adjusted to create a relaxing space to watch movies or a large arrangement to entertain guests. Many modular seating systems come with removable cushions making it simple to clean up spills or stain.
Modular Seating can be designed to blend in with existing decor or make a statement as an accent piece. You can select from a variety of colors, fabrics, and shapes to create an elegant and modular seating design that fits your style. There are many functional features available in modular seating, such as hidden storage compartments that allow easy organization and decluttering of living spaces.
3-wheel buggies are ideal for off-road or all terrain adventures as they have more stability than 4-wheel strollers. The large front wheel that is extremely maneuverable allows for smooth and swift movement. The tyres, which are typically air-filled and have suspension, provide an excellent ride on even the most rough trails and roads. They are also ideal for navigating up hills because the wheels aren't as close to the ground as they are on four wheel pushchairs.
Often, 3-wheel prams are a favourite for parents who enjoy running and jogging with their child as they offer great agility and are less bulky than their 4 wheel counterparts. The GB Upp XL, for instance, features a sleek burnished aluminium frame with a quick one-handed fold as well as rear-facing and forward-facing seats. The Babyzen Yoyo, on the other hand, comes with a black frame with an infant carrycot that can be placed in a fully lie-flat position and air-filled tyres.
Mountain Buggy Sport verso is another excellent all-terrain option. It's extremely lightweight and extremely maneuverable, as well as stylish. The buggy will last from birth, with a carrycot included, to toddlerhood with the modular seat. All this is within the footprint of one buggy.
The latest model, duet(tm), is a side-byside buggy that's small enough for urban use yet with a lot of innovation and control. It features an exclusive seat made of fabric that is set in the frame with a perfect fit at the right height for weight distribution. This allows for easy jumps over kerbs, and navigates neighborhoods and cities.
